    Abstract
    Nowadays, the overthrow of power often occurs against the developing country leaders by using the coup, as happened in the Republic of Niger on February 18, 2010, where President Mamadou Tandja was ousted from his office through a coup which carried out by the military. The coup was triggered by Tandja's plan to hold a referendum to change the constitution. The referendum has secured the refusal of National Assembly and Constitutional Court of Niger, and they declared that the plan is illegal. Tandja considered to do inconstitutional action by holding a referendum. The coup took place because there are several causing factors that influence the coup. This research aims to determine what factors cause a coup toward President Tandja in Niger in 2010. The data used by the authors is the data obtained from the Library of the University of Jember, Jember University Library FISIP and data that derived from the internet. The author does the research used qualitative methods of research, that is the method of collecting data with literature study. Researches carried out indirectly, through literature study or secondary data. The data were obtained by collecting data from literature books, journals, papers, magazines, newspapers and the data contained in the Internet sites that have relevance to the problem. Based on the data and methods used by the author, a military coup toward President Tandja in Niger in 2010 was influenced by several factors, those were military behavior as a guardian of state, which supported by inconstitutional act done by the President, the declining of economic growth, and precipited by the falling of the civilian government’s legitimacy.
