An English Teacher's Perception Toward the Use of Quizizz to Assess Students' Reading Comprehension
Abstract
This research was conducted by using the qualitative case study design to 
report the English teacher’s perception toward the use of Quizizz to assess 
students’ reading comprehension. This research was conducted to give 
information about how Quizizz support teacher in assessing students’ reading 
comprehension and what are the teacher’s perceptions on the use of Quizizz in 
assessing students’ reading comprehension
In this study preliminary interview is used for determining participant. The 
participant of this research was an English teacher at a senior high school in 
Situbondo. The English teacher was selected as the research participant because 
the English teacher has implemented the Quizizz for about a year. In collecting 
the data, the researcher conducted the interview with the English teacher two 
times. for the first interview was conducted on 11 June 2021. Meanwhile, the 
second interview was conducted on 24 June 2021. In conducting the interview, the 
researcher came to the school and met the teacher to ask the teacher for time to do 
the interview. Besides, to make it easier for the the researcher to remember the 
information that has been explained by the teacher, the researcher recorded the 
interview process.
The results of interviews related to the English teacher’s perception toward 
the use of Quizizz to assess students' reading comprehension with an English 
teacher at one of the high schools in Situbondo, it was found that the teacher used 
Quizizz more often during quiz and she used the multiple choice form. In using 
“Quizizz, it was also found that teacher experienced some problems but she can 
also overcome the problems that occurred. Some problems that are faced by 
teacher are: a) not all of the students have a laptop/cell phone, so it will make the 
students get difficulties to do and finish the quiz; b) If the quiz is set as “live” quiz, both teacher and students should be online in the same time; c) it depends on 
the internet signal. Besides, she also explained the ways to overcome those 
problems. She explained that she tried to use language laboratory, she also shared 
hotspot Wi-Fi from her cell phone to the students’ phone that got low signal.
 In addition, Quizizz also has many advantages, if the teacher used it in the 
learning and teaching process, the advantages that can be utilized by teachers 
include: a) Teacher can access Quizizz freely, and it is very easy to use; b) 
Teacher can take advantage from the other user. It means that if the teacher did 
not have any opportunity to create any quiz, the teacher can use the appropriate 
quizzes that have been made by other users; c) Quizizz can make students more 
relaxed, because it can make the test like a game; d) Quizizz can help the teacher 
know how fast the students can finish the quiz from the dashboard showed in the 
Quizizz; e) For students who have finished doing the quiz, they can try to do the 
quiz again once or more. It’s because Quizizz is like playing a game; f) Quizizz
will show the students’ result or score from which the teacher can know which 
question is considered the most difficult for students to work on so that the teacher 
can give further explanation on that material.
The result of this research is expected to be able to give meaningful 
contribution especially for the English teacher as a consideration in applying 
Quizizz as a platform to assess students’ reading comprehension. Furthermore, 
this research is expected to become useful for future researchers as the additional 
information in conducting further research dealing with the use of Quizizz to 
assess students’ reading comprehension.
