dc.description.abstractPeople use language every day. Language itself is a humans device to communicate. Since human is a social creature, they need to socialize with others. A communication can be considered as a successful communication if the message is delivered between interlocutors. Therefore this research analyzes flouted maxims by Aladeen, the main character of The Dictator movie. This study focuses on the types of maxims flouted and the reasons behind the utterances. The research uses qualitative approach. The method of collecting data is documentary method in the form of conversation text. The analyses shows that there are four maxims that are flouted by Aladeen in 20 utterances. The most dominant one is maxim of relevance (found in 10 conversations). Therefore, Aladeen has 6 different types of categories as reasons behind his utterances. The most dominant one is telling a lie to protect yourself or another from punishment or diasapproval for minor failing or blunder which hurts no one (found in 6 conversation).en_US
