Abstract: The United States (US) government has taken some new initiatives in South East Asia during Barrack Obama administration. Notable among these are a close cooperation with Indonesia, Thailand and the Philippines to counter terrorism, a rapprochement with Indonesia, a continuing military and economic support to Singapore and Malaysia and a renewing commitment to help the Philippines in South China Sea conflicts.
