Strategi Pengembangan Ekowisata Kawasan Ekosistem Esensial (KEE) Mangrove Teluk Pangpang Kabupaten Banyuwangi

Abstract

The Kawasan Ekosistem Esensial (KEE) of Pangpang Bay in Banyuwangi Regency is a coastal area that possesses a Mangrove ecosystem with high ecological value. This area is also important for safeguarding the region to ensure environmental sustainability and the livelihoods of surrounding communities. In addition to its ecological function as a habitat provider for various flora and fauna, this area also has the potential to become an ecotourism destination that can generate sustainable economic, social, and environmental benefits. However, the management of the area still faces several challenges, and there is a need to determine appropriate management priorities. This study aims to identify the characteristics of the Pangpang Bay Essential Ecosystem Area, determine priorities for area management development, and formulate directions for sustainable ecotourism development. The research employed both qualitative and quantitative descriptive approaches. Binary Variable Assessment (BVA) analysis was used to identify the characteristics and typological suitability of the area, while the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) method was used to determine management priorities based on assessments from stakeholders involved in managing the area. The study results indicate that the Pangpang Bay KEE has ecotourism potential supported by the presence of Mangrove ecosystems, biodiversity, coastal community activities, and the area's distinctive landscape. Based on the AHP results, ecological aspects are the top priority in developing area management, with a primary focus on biodiversity, receiving a weight of 43%. This is followed by the development of social aspects, with a development focus score of 15%. These findings suggest that area development strategies should prioritize biodiversity protection and sustainable Mangrove ecosystem management as the foundation for ecotourism destinations. Based on the research findings, the development direction of the Pangpang Bay KEE should emphasize conservation principles through Mangrove ecosystem protection, wildlife habitat preservation, increased public awareness, and the development of ecotourism activities that provide benefits to local communities without diminishing the ecological value of the area. Through these efforts, the development of ecotourism in the Pangpang Bay KEE is expected to achieve a balance between environmental conservation and the improvement of community welfare.
