An Analysis of Code-Mixing Types and Their Role in Reflecting Cultural Fluidity in Shadira Firdausi's YouTube Video Collaboration Content

Abstract

This study analyses code-mixing typologies and their role in reflecting cultural fluidity in Shadira Firdausi's collaborative YouTube videos. The study uses Muysken's (2000) code-mixing theory to identify the types of code-mixing present videos and draws on Hall's (1996) concept of cultural identity, together with Garcia and Wei's (2014) concept of translanguaging, to explain how the identified code-mixing reflects cultural fluidity. A qualitative descriptive method with content analysis was used to analyse code-mixing utterances collected from selected YouTube videos.
