Abstract

This study describes euphemisms and dysphemisms in environmental discourse using a ecolinguistic approach in the "Rosi" program on the Kompas TV Youtube channel. This research use desciptive qualitative approach. This research describes a person's expressions or utterances which are used as data and understands more deeply the meaning of the speech context in the research subject's speech. The data source for this research is a five-part video compilation uploaded on the Youtube channel of the Kompas TV program "Rosi" entitled "Emil Salim's Critical Notes: From the Environment to the Fast Train". The data in this research are the speech of Prof. Emil Salim, which is indicated to have elements of euphemism and dysphemism in environmental discourse. The results of the research showed that 30 data were found with 11 types of euphemism and dysphemism expression units, 22 data were analyzed with 4 forms of euphemism and dysphemism expression units, 29 data were analyzed with 12 types of euphemism and dysphemism expression unit functions. Based on research findings, it can be interpreted that the function of euphemisms and dysphemisms does not depend on the type or form, but must look at the context of speech. The type of speech that Emil Salim uses in the use of euphemism and dysphemism expression units is something that is stated directly or indirectly but functions for certain purposes. Therefore, there is a need for contextual understanding.
