Abstract
This study examines the strategies used by the principal of SDN 1 Genteng
Wetan to build parental support for school programs. The study aims to describe
the principal’s strategies in fostering parental support, analyze the challenges
faced and the efforts made to overcome them, and describe the implications of these
strategies for parental involvement and program implementation. Data were
collected through interviews, observations, and documentation, and analyzed using
Miles and Huberman’s interactive model. The findings show that the principal
enhanced parental participation through program planning, structured
communication (meetings, official invitations, homeroom teachers, WhatsApp
groups), involvement in school activities, and feedback evaluation. Challenges
included parents’ limited time, differing awareness of their educational roles, and
uneven responsiveness. The principal addressed these challenges by increasing
communication intensity, providing information earlier, and encouraging teachers
to approach less active parents personally. The study concludes that inclusive and
adaptive leadership strengthens school-family relationships, supports program
implementation, and improves students’ discipline, motivation, and engagement.
