dc.description.abstractStraw mushroom (Volvariella volvacea.) is a horticultural commodity with high economic value and good nutritional content. However, its production in Indonesia is still relatively low, partly due to the use of suboptimal growing media and nutrients. This study aims to determine the effect of growing media composition and the application of various plant growth regulators (PGRs) on the growth and yield of straw mushrooms (Volvariella volvacea). The experiment was conducted using a factorial Completely Randomised Design (CRD) with two factors, namely the composition of the growing media (100% straw, 50% straw + 50% cogon grass, and 100% cogon grass) and the application of plant growth regulators (without PGR, 10% bamboo shoot extract, and 2 ppm BAP) with three replications. The research results show that the interaction between the composition of the growing media and plant growth regulators (PGR) significantly affects the total number of fruit bodies and the total weight of fruit bodies, but does not significantly affect the harvest speed, fruit body diameter, number of fruit bodies per harvest, and weight of fruit bodies per harvest. Generally, the 100% straw growing media combined with the application of 10% bamboo shoot extract PGR produces the best growth and yield, as indicated by the highest total number and weight of fruit bodies. The main effects of the growing media and PGR separately also show very significant results on production variables, where straw-based media is more optimal compared to pure alang-alang, while natural PGR from bamboo shoots is more effective than BAP in increasing the productivity of straw mushrooms. Thus, the right combination of growing media and the use of natural plant growth regulators can be an alternative strategy to optimally increase the yield of straw mushroom cultivation.
