Analisis Penerapan Livelihood Resources Buruh Nelayan Ditinjau dari Modal Sosial dan Modal Keuangan (Studi Kasus pada Buruh Nelayan Desa Sumberanyar Kecamatan Banyuputih Kabupaten Situbondo)

Abstract

Fishing laborers are a vulnerable group due to their unpredictable income. In difficult economic conditions, the use of livelihood resources becomes one way for them to ensure their survival. This study aims to analyze the livelihood resources of fishing laborers based on social capital and financial capital. This study employs a qualitative method using a case study approach. The results show that social capital which includes social relationships and social networks helps fishing laborers sustain their livelihoods. Social relationships among fishing laborers in Sumberanyar Village are well maintained through religious study groups and mutual aid savings clubs. These social relationships are characterized by cooperation and mutual assistance, particularly in the form of loans. The fishermen’s social networks remain limited to the fisheries and livestock sectors. Meanwhile, their financial capital still relies on loans from boat owners and neighboring residents. The savings held by the fishermen consist of arisan contributions and cash savings. The assets they own are still short term in nature, such as gold, chickens, and goats. The economic vulnerability experienced by fishing laborers means that some of them have neither savings nor assets. To meet their basic needs, fishing laborers who lack savings or assets take on other jobs related to the fisheries sector and start their own businesses.
