dc.description.abstractMembrane-based technology has recently emerged as an effective alternative for wastewater treatment, offering significant advantages over conventional methods. This study aims to investigate the effect of nylon membrane mass fraction variations on three main performance parameters: swelling degree, flux, and the ability to reduce COD and ammonia concentrations in hospital wastewater. The nylon membranes were synthesized using the phase inversion method, and ultrafiltration was applied as the filtration technique. The objectives of this research are to (1) determine the effect of nylon membrane mass fraction variations on the swelling degree, (2) evaluate the influence of nylon membrane mass fraction on flux performance, and (3) assess the ability of nylon membranes to reduce COD and ammonia in hospital wastewater samples. The results showed that variations in nylon mass fraction influenced all performance parameters. An increase in nylon mass fraction led to a decrease in swelling degree and flux. For membranes A to D, a higher nylon mass fraction resulted in a higher rejection coefficient, while membrane E exhibited a decrease in rejection performance due to total fouling, which was affected by physical characteristics, particularly pore size and distribution. Quantitatively, membrane D demonstrated the most superior performance in reducing COD and ammonia concentrations, while also maintaining better operational stability compared to other variations. Therefore, membrane D is recommended as a potential alternative for hospital wastewater treatment.
