Abstract
Analysis of Metabolic Parameters Among Elderly Members of Forum
Komunikasi Karang Werda in Jember Regency in Relation to Routine Sunnah
Fasting Practice. Metabolic disorders are highly prevalent among the elderly, often
leading to multimorbidity. Early detection through screening of metabolic
parameters such as glucose, cholesterol, and uric acid is essential. Sunnah fasting,
particularly on Mondays and Thursdays, is known to positively influence metabolic
health, although its specific effects on elderly populations remain underexplored.
This study aims to analyze differences in metabolic parameter values among elderly
individuals who routinely perform sunnah fasting compared to those who do not.
An analytic observational study with a cross-sectional design was conducted
involving 199 elderly individuals from the Forum Komunikasi Karang Werda in
Jember Regency. Data collection included interviews regarding fasting habits and
direct measurement of random blood glucose, cholesterol, and uric acid levels using
Nesco Multicheck. Data were analyzed using the Chi-square test. The study
revealed significant differences (p < 0.05) in all three metabolic parameters between
the groups. Elderly participants who routinely performed sunnah fasting had a
higher likelihood of maintaining normal glucose (OR = 1.947), cholesterol (OR =
1.970), and uric acid levels (OR = 2.129) compared to those who did not. Regular
practice of sunnah fasting is associated with better metabolic parameter profiles
among the elderly, suggesting its potential as a preventive strategy for metabolic
disorders in this age group.
