Abstract
The teaching of traditional songs in primary schools is often limited to singing
activities without exploring the cultural meanings and educational embedded within
the songs. This study aims to describe the implementation of traditional song teaching
using a deep learning approach, to identify the educational values contained in
traditional songs, and to examine the supporting and inhibiting factors in this learning
process. This study employed a descriptive qualitative approach. Data were collected
through observation, interviews, and documentation in Class III SDN Sukoreno 03,
Jember Regency, and were analyzed using data reduction, data display, and
conclusion-drawing techniques. The results of the study indicate that implementation
was conducted through three stages: planning, implementation, and evaluation. The
three principles of deep learning, joyful learning, mindful learning, and meaningful
learning were clearly reflected in every learning activity. The traditional songs
Ampar-Ampar Pisang and Cublak-Cublak Suweng were found to contain educational
values, including hard work, togetherness, honesty, appreciation for local culture, and
preservation of traditions. Supporting factors included high student enthusiasm and a
communicative teaching approach, whilst inhibiting factors included differences in
students’ abilities and the lack of a structured assessment rubric. This study concludes
that the use of deep learning makes the learning of traditional songs more meaningful,
enjoyable, and culturally enriching for primary school students.
