dc.description.abstractNuclear Power Plant (NPP) is one of the alternative power plants using fission reactions to produce heat that has kinetic energy to drive turbine generators. NPPs are built to fulfill electrical energy needs and have the advantage of being environmentally friendly if studied in more depth and economically. One type of reactor in a small modular reactor (SMR) type NPP is a boiling water reactor (BWR) which is currently being developed. The operation of the BWR type is determined by analyzing the effective multiplication factor (keff) value produced during the burn-up process. This study was conducted using a fuel design in the form of thorium nitride with a U-233 variation of 1% to 5%. This study aims to determine the most optimal operating results on the BWR during a 2.5-year burn up simulation without refueling. This study was conducted by simulation using the OpenMC program to obtain the most optimal keff value and neutron flux. The most optimal keff value at each optimization stage is used in the next parameter optimization stage. The final result obtained shows that rectangular fuel pin cells have an effective multiplication factor (keff) value in the most critical condition with 2% Uranium-233 fuel. Hexagonal fuel pin cells produce neutron flux with a significant increase in neutron movement in the reactor core
