Pergeseran Praktik Konsosiasionalisme dalam Politik Belgia Pasca-Pemilu 2024

Abstract

This study analyzes the phenomenon of political change in Belgium following the 2024 Federal and Regional Elections, indicating a shift in consociationalist practices. As a country deeply fragmented by geography and culture, Belgium has for decades relied on the classic consociationalist model to maintain national integration through inclusive compromise among language community elites. However, the 2024 elections demonstrated significant changes, particularly following the strengthening of center-right parties, the weakening of the PS's dominance in Wallonia, and the formation of the Arizona Coalition, which is more pragmatic and ideological than the previous government. This study employs a qualitative method based on literature review, utilizing Arend Lijphart's theory of consociationalism as an analytical tool. This study shows that consociationalism in Belgium has undergone changes in patterns of political compromise due to increasing regional interests, ideological polarization, and political pragmatism in government formation.
