Pengetahuan Lokal Perempuan Pesisir Dalam Pengelolaan Sumber Daya Perikanan (Studi Pada Perempuan Pesisir Puger Kabupaten Jember)

Abstract

Puger is one of the coastal areas in Jember Regency that is used as an economic center in the management of fishery resources. The management is carried out entirely by coastal communities and also women who take an important role in it, namely selling fishermen's catches to fulfill family needs. However, they also face challenges in their role such as climate change on fisheries stocks so that women's local knowledge becomes the main thing to face these challenges. This research discusses the local knowledge of coastal women in managing fisheries resources in Puger, Jember Regency. The research approach used is descriptive qualitative, with the research locus around the Puger Fish Auction Place (TPI) using purposive area technique, while the determination of research subjects using purposive sampling technique with key informants of kalen women, pengambek women, and land captains. Data collection techniques were carried out using three approaches, namely interviews, observation, and documentation. Data validity was tested using extended participation, observation persistence, and triangulation. The results showed that coastal women's knowledge is based on experiences passed down from generation to generation, coastal women actively participate in the family economy with a focus on managing fishery resources. They are able to understand the seasonal and weather cycles that have an impact on fishery yields. In addition, there is collaboration with fishermen in managing fisheries resources. The conclusion of this study is that coastal women are able to manage fisheries resources based on knowledge, active participation, and communication skills to collaborate with fishermen. This enables fisheries resource management to be a sustainable community-based management.
