Abstract
The term ‘kejawen’ refers to everything related to the customs, beliefs and philosophy of Javanese society. The general public tends to view kejawen as intrinsically linked to Islam; however, the term can also be found within Christianity, specifically within the Jawi Wetan Christian Church. This study aims to introduce the Christian aspect of Kejawen and to analyse the work ethic of the congregation using the Protestant ethical perspective and the concept of social action according to Max Weber. The research method employed is qualitative with a phenomenological approach. Data collection techniques were derived from observations, interviews and a literature review. The results of this study indicate that the congregation of the Jawi Wetan Christian Church in Mojoagung possesses a strong work ethic, accompanied by their active involvement in church ministry, which aligns with the concepts of vocation and asceticism. The behaviour they exhibit in their work is grounded in instrumental rational action and value-rational action. The findings of this study indicate that the congregation of the Jawi Wetan Christian Church does not merely pursue worldly aspects but also dedicates their lives to God. The essence of this study lies in how individuals glorify the name of God in accordance with the Christian values they hold dear.
