Peran Paguyuban IMADA (Ikatan Mahasiswa DKI Jakarta) dalam Membangun Solidaritas Sosial Mahasiswa Perantau di Kota Jember

Abstract

Migrant students in Jember City often face adaptation challenges such as culture shock and homesickness. The IMADA association exists as a regional community that helps students from the DKI Jakarta area navigate these challenges. This study aims to determine the role of the IMADA association in building social solidarity among migrant students in Jember. This research uses a qualitative descriptive approach with a snowball sampling technique. Data collection was carried out through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, which were then analyzed using Émile Durkheim's Theory of Social Solidarity. The results show that IMADA plays a significant role as a social adaptation container, a social support system, and a conflict resolution facilitator. These roles function optimally due to relevant organizational programs (such as Makrab, Diesnatalis, and cultural activities) and the elimination of a seniority system. The solidarity built within IMADA is divided into two forms: Mechanical Solidarity, based on the "law of similarities" (shared origin, collective consciousness, emotional bonds), and Organic Solidarity, characterized by functional interdependence within the organization's structure and cross-disciplinary academic reliance among members. In conclusion, IMADA has successfully become a psychological safety net that integrates traditional kinship values into modern migrant social life.
