Hubungan Stigma HIV dengan Ansietas pada Orang dengan HIV (ODHIV) di Kabupaten Jember

Abstract

Background: People Living with HIV (PLWH) face significant psychosocial burdens alongside their health condition. The stigma attached to this condition is often a major stressor that triggers mental health disorders, including anxiety. Jember Regency ranks third for the highest number of HIV cases in East Java, yet research on psychosocial aspects such as stigma and anxiety in this region remains limited. Objective: This study aims to analyze the relationship between HIV-related stigma and anxiety among PLWH in Jember Regency. Methodology: This quantitative study employed a cross-sectional design. A sample of 112 PLWH reached by the LASKAR Jember Foundation was selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected through demographic questionnaires, the HIV/AIDS Stigma Instrument-PLWA (HASI-P) to measure stigma, and the Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7 (GAD-7) to measure anxiety. Data analysis was conducted using the Spearman Rank correlation test. Results: More than 50 percent respondents experienced high HIV stigma (56,3%), with 51,8% of respondents in the high category for internalized stigma. Regarding anxiety levels, the majority of respondents showed no symptoms of anxiety (80,4%). The Spearman Rank test results showed a p-value < 0,001 with a correlation coefficient (r) of 0,391. Conclusion: There is a significant positive relationship with weak strength between HIV-related stigma and anxiety among PLWH in Jember Regency. This indicates that higher stigma is associated with higher levels of anxiety. Although most respondents currently have no symptoms of anxiety, healthcare providers are encouraged to integrate routine mental health screening to maintain this condition and ensure early detection for those at risk.
