Abstract
This study aims to determine the effect of biosaka and BRE4 biofertilizer on
the growth and yield of shallot (Allium ascalonicum) and to develop the findings
into leaflet-based information media. Shallots are a high-value horticultural
commodity with increasing demand in Indonesia. However, efforts to increase
production are still largely dependent on chemical fertilizers, which may threaten
environmental sustainability. Therefore, biosaka and biofertilizers are proposed as
environmentally friendly alternatives to support sustainable cultivation. The
research was conducted in the greenhouse of Agrotechnopark, Universitas Jember,
from September to November 2026 using a factorial Completely Randomized
Design (CRD) with two factors: biosaka (0, 1, 2.5, and 4 mL/L) and BRE4
biofertilizer (0, 10, 20, and 30 mL/L), each with three replications. Observed
parameters included plant height, number of leaves, fresh weight, dry weight, bulb
diameter, number of bulbs, consumable weight, bulb dry weight, and harvest index.
Data were analyzed using ANOVA followed by Duncan’s Multiple Range Test
(DMRT) at a 5% significance level. The leaflet was validated by material, media,
and user experts. The results showed that biosaka at 4 mL/L and BRE4 biofertilizer
at 30 mL/L produced the most significant improvements in growth and yield
parameters. Production enhancement was reflected in consumable weight (23.00
g), number of bulbs (8.22 bulbs), bulb dry weight (2.68 g), and harvest index
(85.67%). Abiotic factors such as temperature, humidity, and soil pH were within
optimal ranges. The developed leaflet achieved an average validation score of
86.5%, indicating it is feasible as an informative and educational medium. Overall,
biosaka and BRE4 biofertilizer have strong potential as sustainable alternatives to
enhance shallot productivity.
