Abstract

This study aimed to examine the effect and improvement of students' critical thinking skills through the implementation of a guided inquiry learning model accompanied by STEM-integrated science student worksheets (LKPD). Critical thinking skills were considered essential competencies in facing 21stcentury challenges, particularly in science education. The research sample consisted of two classes, the experimental class which received treatment using the guided inquiry model with STEM-integrated science LKPD, and the control class which received conventional learning using the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) approach. The instruments used included an essay-type critical thinking test and an observation sheet for learning implementation. The data analysis results showed a significant difference in the average scores of students' critical thinking skills between the experimental and control classes. Students in the experimental class demonstrated a higher improvement in critical thinking skills compared to those in the control class. Moreover, there was a significant increase in the critical thinking skills of students in the experimental class after the implementation of the learning model. These findings indicated that the application of the guided inquiry learning model with STEM-integrated science LKPD had not only a positive effect but also effectively improved students' critical thinking skills significantly.
