Hubungan Gaya Hidup Terhadap Stadium Katarak Senilis di Poli Mata Rumah Sakit Tingkat III Baladhika Husada Jember

Abstract

Senile cataract is an eye disease that occurs due to progressive decline in adults aged over 50 years which can cause blindness. Senile cataract are caused by sun exposure and lifestyle such as diet, exercise, alcohol consumtion, smoking and stress. This study aim to analyze the relationship between lifestyle and senile cataract stage at the eye clinic, Bhaladika Husada Level III Hospital, Jember. This study was conducted on 103 respondents (Age range 51 years to 70 years) who were selected using the quote sampling technique. Data collection use a Simple Lifestyle Indicator Questionnaire in indonesian version and cataract examination. Research data was anayzed using Kendall tau c test with significance value of 0,05. The result showed that the everage age of senile cataract pastients was 61,44 years, the majority of respondents were male (53,4%), 32% of respondents had junior high school education, the majority of jobs were self-employed (35%) and were sun exposed ≤ 4 hours a day (69,9%), 63,1 % were diagnosed immature cataract and 60,2 % were moderate lifestyle. The result showed that p value 0,000, which mean that lifestyle had a significant relationship with senile cataract stage. Lifestyle indicator such us diet (pvalue= 0,002), exercise (p-value=0,045), alcohol consumption (p-value=0,043), smoking (p-value=0,000), stress (p-value=0,016), and sunlight exposure (pvalue= 0,00). Lifestyle such as diet, exercise, alcohol, smoking, stres and sunlight exposure are significantly related to senile cataract stage with a negatif relationship, meaning that the higher lifestyle, the lower senilis cataract stage. Nurses play an important role in implementing a health education approach to increase public knowladge and awareness in maintaining eye health and preventing the severity of senile cataracts.
