Wisata Alam Situ Gunung pada Masa Kolonial (1930-1942)

Abstract

This thesis discusses the history of Situ Gunung during the colonial period (1930- 1942). The research questions are as follows: What was the background of Situ Gunung nature tourism during the colonial period? What were the dynamics of Situ Gunung nature tourism during the colonial period (1930-1942)? What was the impact of Situ Gunung nature tourism on society during the colonial period (1930-1942)? The research method used is historical research, which consists of four stages: Heuristics, Criticism, Interpretation, and Historiography. The approach used is Ecotourism with Developmentism theory. The results of this study indicate that the Situ Gunung tourist attraction was already well-known during the colonial era. Therefore, it has considerable historical value. The background to its formation begins with a legendary story well-known among the local community. It is said that Situ Gunung originates from Mbah Jalun, a fugitive wanted by the Dutch who took refuge at the foot of Mount Gede. Furthermore, geologically, the formation of Situ Gunung is explained as a result of the eruption of Mount Gede. Following its formation, Situ Gunung's development as a tourist attraction continued, both before 1930 and from 1930 to 1942. During this period, Situ Gunung was widely reported, especially in newspapers, featuring reviews from tourists, advertisements for Situ Gunung, and events occurring there. The existence of Situ Gunung as a tourist attraction had a socio-economic impact on the surrounding community, as well as increasing accessibility to Situ Gunung.
