| dc.description.abstract | Beef cattle farming focuses on breeding, raising, and fattening cattle for meat production. Feed costs and fluctuations in forage availability pose challenges for livestock farmers. Agricultural waste has the potential to be used as an alternative feed ingredient; however, it generally has low nutritional value and high crude fiber content. Fermentation technology utilizing Trichoderma harzianum can improve feed quality through cellulase production and increased crude protein content. Nevertheless, fermented agricultural waste alone may not fully meet the nutritional requirements of fattening beef cattle. Therefore, Black Soldier Fly (BSF) maggot meal can be added as a high-protein feed ingredient. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of silage and fermentation treatments, with and without maggot meal addition, on the nutritional value of complete feed for fattening beef cattle. A quantitative descriptive method was employed using five treatments: control, silage, fermentation, silage supplemented with maggot meal, and fermentation supplemented with maggot meal. The observed parameters included moisture, ash, crude fiber, crude protein, crude fat, nitrogen-free extract (NFE), and total digestible nutrients (TDN). The results showed that the treatments given affected all nutritional parameters. Silage and fermentation produced no significant differences in nutrient content at 61% water content, 12.7% protein content, and fat content. Fermentation had higher fiber and ash content than silage, while fermentation had lower BETN and TDN values than silage. The addition of maggot flour increased ash content, protein content, fat content, and TDN values, but decreased water content, crude fiber, and BETN values. The nutritional content of ash content, protein content, and TDN values was in accordance with quality category 1, but crude fiber and crude fat did not meet SNI requirements, so the feed formulation needed to be refined to meet the feed requirements of fattening beef cattle. | |
