Abstract
Physical fitness in Indonesian adolescents still considered relatively low, only around 7–10.3% of them have
good level of fitness. VO2Max is widely used as one of indicator to measure aerobic capacity and become
important especially in badminton because this sport need high cardiorespiratory endurance during the game. This research was aimed to analyze relationship of protein intake, nutrition knowledge, and hydration status toward VO2Max status among 47 badminton athletes aged between 13–19 years from PBSI Banyuwangi. This study used observational with cross-sectional design. VO2Max were measured by using Multistage Fitness Test, protein intake collected through 3×24-hour food recall, nutrition knowledge assessed using validated questionnaire, while hydration status evaluated by self-monitoring urine color chart. Data were analyzed using Spearman Rank Correlation test for statistical analysis. The findings showed there was significant positive relationship between VO2Max with protein intake (r = 0.558; p < 0.001), nutrition knowledge (r = 0.478; p = 0.001), and hydration status (r = 0.434; p = 0.002). These findings indicate that nutrition intake, level of nutrition knowledge, and proper hydration may have contribution to differences in aerobic fitness among adolescent badminton players.
