Abstract
This study aims to describe the language attitude of PBSI students at the
University of Jember toward Indonesian, focusing on three aspects: language
loyalty, language pride, and awareness of language norms. Language attitude
plays an important role in maintaining Indonesian as the national and academic
language, particularly in academic contexts. This study employs a qualitative
descriptive approach. The subjects of this study were 70 PBSI students at the
University of Jember. Data were collected through a questionnaire as the primary
instrument. Data analysis was conducted through data reduction, data display, and
conclusion drawing, which were then interpreted descriptively. The results show
that students generally demonstrate positive language attitude toward Indonesian
across all three aspects. In terms of language loyalty, the percentage of agreement
responses reached 71.86%, indicating that students use Indonesian as the primary
language in academic contexts. Language pride is reflected in the percentage of
agreement responses of 80.29%, showing that students view Indonesian as an
important language and a symbol of national identity. Meanwhile, awareness of
language norms is indicated by the percentage of agreement responses of 74.14%,
which demonstrates students’ attention to using Indonesian appropriately and in
accordance with standard rules, although variations in language use still occur in
certain situations. In conclusion, PBSI students at the University of Jember
demonstrate a positive language attitude toward Indonesian, as reflected in their
language loyalty, language pride, and awareness of language norms in academic
contexts.
