Peran Pekerja Sosial Dalam Meningkatkan Kemandirian Activity Of Daily Living (ADL) Pada Penyandang Tuna Netra (Studi Kasus di Sentra Mahatmiya Bali)

Abstract

People with visual impairments face various limitations in performing Activities of Daily Living (ADL) and therefore require support to enhance their independence. This study aims to analyze the role of social workers in enhancing independence in Activities of Daily Living among people with visual impairments at the Mahatmiya Center in Bali. The study employs a qualitative approach using the case study method. Informants were selected using snowball sampling, while data collection was conducted through interviews, observations, and documentation. Data validity was tested using source triangulation and methodological triangulation, and data analysis employed the Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña model, which includes data condensation, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of the study indicate that social workers play a role in enhancing ADL independence through four distinct roles: facilitating the development of ADL independence, developing ADL knowledge and skills, motivating beneficiaries to improve their independence, and empowering beneficiaries to develop their personal potential. These roles are realized through assistance with mobility and the use of white canes; instruction in hygiene and self-care; education on communication and social interaction; counseling; providing motivation; the use of role models; and the development of vocational skills. This support contributes to improvements in mobility, personal hygiene, communication, social interaction, and social functioning, enabling beneficiaries to perform daily activities more independently.
