Abstract
The Ijen Geopark area boasts abundant biodiversity, including a wide variety of ferns (Pteridophyta). As cormophytes, ferns play a crucial ecological role, yet their utilization as a source of information remains limited. This study aimed to identify fern species, analyze the Pteridophyta diversity index within the Ijen Geopark, and evaluate the development of an informative and engaging educational booklet for the public. A plot-based method was employed for data collection. Environmental factors measured included temperature, air humidity, wind speed, light intensity, soil pH, soil moisture, and elevation. The biodiversity data obtained were subsequently integrated into the development of an educational booklet. Identification results revealed 21 fern species belonging to seven families: Nephrolepidaceae, Athyriaceae, Cyatheaceae, Thelypteridaceae, Marattiaceae, Polypodiaceae, and Aspleniaceae. The species with the highest Importance Value Index (IVI) was Diplazium esculentum (40.38%). Diversity analysis using the Shannon-Wiener index yielded a value of 2.47, indicating a moderate level of fern vegetation diversity at the study site—a condition optimally supported by the site's abiotic factors. Meanwhile, feasibility testing by subject matter experts resulted in a score of 73% (feasible), media experts gave 80% (feasible), and user testing yielded 91% (feasible). The study concludes that 21 fern species exist in the Ijen Geopark area, with a moderate level of vegetation diversity (H’ = 2.47). Based on the aggregated results of all validation and feasibility indicators, the developed Pteridophyta diversity booklet is proven valid and suitable for use as an educational resource for the public.
