Abstract
Tobacco inventory planning in the cigarette industry poses a challenge because the raw material is seasonal and requires a relatively long storage period. These characteristics necessitate adjustments to the Material Requirements Planning (MRP) method to achieve optimal inventory planning. This study aims to determine a tobacco inventory planning scenario with minimum costs at the Gagak Hitam cigarette factory.
Production forecasting was conducted using the Monte Carlo method for the period 2026-2033 and served as the basis for calculating production requirements for 2026-2030. The analysis was conducted under the existing conditions, Scenario 1, and Scenario 2. Scenario I uses an initial inventory equivalent to three years' worth of demand, with purchase quantities determined using the Economic Order Quantity (EOQ) method, while Scenario 2 follows the company's existing planning pattern without annual purchases. The simulation was conducted over a five-year period.
The results of the study show that Scenario | yields the lowest inventory cost of Rp119,403,251 during the 2026-2030 period, or an average of Rp23,880,650 per year. Therefore, scenario 1 is recommended as the preferred alternative for tobacco inventory planning at the Gagak Hitam Cigarette Factory. The implementation of this scenario must be supported by supply partnerships with farmers or collectors, as well as the management of storage conditions and regular tobacco quality control to ensure the availability and quality of raw materials.
