Abstract

Geometry is often considered difficult by students because it is abstract, resulting in low interest in learning and less than optimal learning outcomes. One solution to improve interest and understanding of geometry is to develop a learning module based on van Hiele's theory, which categorizes five levels of geometric thinking in stages, namely level 0 (visualization), level 1 (analysis), level 2 (informal deduction), level 3 (deduction), and level 4 (rigor). Module is an instrument that supports students in self-learning by providing clear guidance and organized material so as to increase the effectiveness of learning. This research aims to described the development of geometry modules based on van Hiele's theory in order to facilitated students in increasing the level of geometric thinking of students and understanding of geometry. The development model used in this research was the ADDIE development model which consists of Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. This research was focuses on product development or only reaches the development stage, so the implementation and evaluation stages are not carried out due to limited research time and limited access to research subjects. The instruments used in this research was validation questionnaire and VHGT (Van Hiele Geometry Test). The results of the development of geometry modules based on van Hiele's theory have met the valid criteria with a correlation coefficient value (𝛼) at module level 0 (visualization) of 0.94; module level 1 (analysis) of 0.92, and module level 2 (informal deduction) of 0.91 with a very high level of validity.
