Abstract
Hypertension is a chronic disease that requires long-term therapy to control blood pressure and prevent serious complications. Treatment success is highly dependent on patient adherence to medication. However, medication adherence among hypertensive patients remains a major challenge, thus requiring interventions to improve adherence, one of which is telepharmacy services. This study aimed to analyze the effect of telepharmacy on medication adherence among hypertensive patients at Sumbersari Primary Health Care. This study used a quantitative method with a quasi-experimental design and a prospective approach. A total of 60 respondents were included and divided into an intervention group (n=30) and a control group (n=30). The results showed that the majority of respondents were aged 41–60 years, female, unemployed, had a duration of hypertension ≤1 year, and had no comorbidities. The adherence profile indicated that the control group showed an increase in mean score from 27.87 to 29.57, whereas the intervention group showed a decrease in mean score from 26.13 to 22.47. The Wilcoxon test showed significant changes in both the control group (p=0.005) and the intervention group (p=0.000). The Mann–Whitney test revealed a significant difference between the two groups after the intervention (p=0.000). In conclusion, telepharmacy services are effective in improving medication adherence among hypertensive patients. The implementation of telepharmacy can be considered an innovative strategy to enhance pharmaceutical care services in primary healthcare settings.
