dc.description.abstractThe mathematics learning outcomes on plane shapes for fifth-grade elementary school students are still low because the teaching tends to be abstract and does not connect mathematical concepts with everyday life. This study aims to determine the effect of the Realistic Mathematics Education approach on the learning outcomes of flat shapes material among fifth-grade elementary school students. This research uses a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental type and a nonequivalent control group design. The research subjects consisted of 58 students, comprising 29 students in the experimental class and 29 students in the control class at SDN Karangrejo 02 Jember for the 2025/2026 academic year. Data collection was conducted using pretest and posttest. Data were analyzed using normality tests, homogeneity tests, Independent Sample t-tests, and N-Gain test. The research results showed a significance value of 0.003 < 0.05, so H₀ was rejected and H₁ was accepted. The average N-Gain of the experimental class was 0.37, which falls into the moderate category. Thus, the Realistic Mathematics Education approach has a significant impact and is able to improve the learning outcomes of flat geometry material for fifth-grade elementary school students.
