| dc.description.abstract | This study examines the portrayal of masculinity in Jojo Moyes' novel Me Before You (2012) through the lens of patriarchal masculinity. The research focuses on the character of Will Traynor, a wealthy young man who becomes disabled after an accident. This study used qualitative methodology to analyze the theories of marginalized masculinity. The analysis reveals that Will’s disability is perceived as threat to his masculinity, resulting in feelings of powerlessness and loss of independence. The study highlights how Will's experiences are shaped by societal expectations of masculinity, emphasizing strength, power, and control. The findings suggest that Will's disability is used to reinforce traditional notions of masculinity, ultimately leading to his tragic decision to end his life. The research contributes to a deeper understanding of how societal norms of masculinity can impact the lives of individuals with disabilities, particularly in decision-making contexts. This study examines the portrayal of masculinity in Jojo Moyes' novel Me Before You (2012) through the lens of patriarchal masculinity.
