Abstract

This classroom action research aims to determine the improvement of fourth-grade students’ learning outcomes on the topic of energy transformation through the implementation of the Project Based Learning (PjBL) model combined with a simple electricity generator experiment. The study was conducted in response to the low learning outcomes observed in the initial assessment, where 23 out of 27 students scored below the minimum mastery criterion (KKTP) of 70. The research was carried out in two cycles, each consisting of planning, action, observation, and reflection. The participants were 27 fourth-grade students at SDN Karangrejo 05 during the 2025/2026 academic year. Data were collected using a cognitive-learning test in the form of multiple-choice questions that had been validated by expert validators. Quantitative analysis was used to compare students’ learning outcomes across the pre-cycle, Cycle I, and Cycle II. The results indicate a significant improvement in students’ learning outcomes. The average score increased from 17 in the pre-cycle to 51 in Cycle I, and further to 72 in Cycle II, successfully surpassing the KKTP. These findings show that the PjBL model, supported by hands-on experiments using a simple electricity generator, effectively enhances students’ understanding of energy transformation and fosters their active engagement in the learning process. Therefore, it can be concluded that the PjBL model through experimental activities is effective in improving students’ learning outcomes on energy-related topics.
