Artikulasi Politik Calon Legislatif Dalam Memobilisasi Masyarakat Pendatang Muslim Pada Pemilihan Legislatif DI Desa Banjar Anyar Kabupaten Tabanan

Abstract

This study examines the dynamics of vote mobilization among Muslim migrants in the Legislative Election in Electoral District IV Kediri–Marga, Tabanan Regency, Bali. The research is motivated by changes in Tabanan’s social structure that have become increasingly plural due to the growing number of migrants, particularly Muslim communities, who have traditionally remained outside Bali’s caste-based social system. The presence of this minority group has not only altered the demographic composition but has also opened new opportunities for more inclusive political strategies within legislative electoral contests. This study employs a case study approach using observation, interviews, and documentation as data collection methods. The analysis is grounded in Jürgen Habermas’s theory of the public sphere. The public sphere theory is used to understand the relationship between private spaces and public spaces as arenas for opinion formation and the articulation of interests. The findings reveal that Muslim migrants in Banjar Anyar Village have been able to build strong group solidarity through religious institutions and community organizations, which subsequently function as a basis for political mobilization. The articulation of minority group interests occurs through relationships with legislative candidates willing to accommodate their needs, thereby forming a structured mode of political articulation for minority groups. This study concludes that Balinese politics has not entirely abandoned traditional ideology, but has undergone a shift toward more adaptive patterns of representation, in which minority groups have greater opportunities to participate in and influence political processes through the political public sphere.
