Penggunaan Media Balok Kata (Uno Stacko) Untuk Meningkatkan Kemampuan Memilih Diksi Dalam Menulis Puisi Pada Siswa Kelas VIII-I SMP Negeri 1 Jenggawah

Abstract

The ability to select appropriate diction is an essential aspect of poetry writing, as it determines the accuracy of meaning, the beauty of language, and the expressive quality of a poem. However, the results of the preliminary observation conducted in Class VIII-I of SMP Negeri 1 Jenggawah revealed that students' ability to choose appropriate diction was still low. Students experienced difficulties in developing ideas, selecting words that matched the theme, and composing coherent lines of poetry. This study aimed to improve students' diction selection skills in poetry writing through the use of the Word Block (UNO Stacko) Learning Media. This study employed Classroom Action Research, which was conducted in two cycles. Each cycle consisted of four stages: planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The research subjects were 34 students of Class VIII-I at SMP Negeri 1 Jenggawah. Data were collected through observation, interviews, tests, and documentation, and were analyzed using qualitative and quantitative descriptive analysis techniques. The findings showed that the use of the Word Block (UNO Stacko) Learning Media improved students' ability to select diction in poetry writing. In the pre-cycle, the average score was 59.35, with 13 students (38.2%) achieving the minimum mastery criterion. After the implementation of the media in Cycle I, the average score increased to 71.8, with 23 students (67.7%) achieving mastery. In Cycle II, the average score further increased to 79.96, with 29 students (85.2%) achieving mastery. In addition, students demonstrated greater participation and enthusiasm during the learning process, resulting in a more active and meaningful classroom environment. It can be concluded that the use of the Word Block (UNO Stacko) Learning Media effectively improved the diction selection skills of Class VIII-I students at SMP Negeri 1 Jenggawah in poetry writing.
