Abstract

Vocational learning is a form of coaching that aims to improve the skills and readiness of prisoners in facing life after release. This research aims to find out vocational learning as a skill development strategy for inmates through a job guidance program at the Class II A Jember Correctional Institution. The research uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive method through observation, interview, and documentation techniques involving correctional officers and inmates. The results of the study show that vocational learning is carried out through various productive job trainings such as carpentry, welding, and handicrafts that are tailored to the needs of the inmates and job opportunities in the community. The implementation of learning applies the principles of andragogy which emphasizes hands-on learning experience, active participation, and independence. Job guidance programs not only improve technical skills, but also shape inmates' attitudes of discipline, responsibility, confidence, and work ethic. Thus, vocational learning through the job guidance program at the Class II A Jember Correctional Institution has proven to be an effective coaching strategy in improving skills while preparing inmates to be able to reintegrate socially, live independently, and play a productive role in the community after serving their sentence.
