| dc.description.abstract | This research was conducted to improve students’ listening comprehension by using ELLLO at a senior high school in Jember which integrated with an Islamic boarding school. The researcher did the preliminary study by interviewing the English teacher. Based on the interview, one class had a low listening score (XI Social 2). Students’ previous listening scores showed that only 9 (47.3%) of 19 students got above 75. This happened because students mostly did not recognize unfamiliar words and could not understand the meaning of the words because of the speed of the audio. Moreover, the English teacher taught English twice a week and he never used ELLLO as a medium to teach listening. Thus, the researcher conducted classroom action research to overcome those problems by using ELLLO website. This research used Classroom Action Research (CAR) as the research design which was conducted collaboratively with the English teacher in one cycle, which consisted of four stages: action planning, implementation of the action, observation, and reflection. The data were collected by using the results of students’ listening comprehension tests and observations. The result of students’ listening tests showed that there were 14 (87.5%) out of 16 students got >75, and there were 2 (12.5%) students got “The use of ELLLO website improved the students' listening comprehension when 70% of the students reached the minimum requirement score of 75”. It means that the result of students’ listening comprehension test achieved the criteria of success in Cycle 1. Hence, the action was not continued to Cycle 2. In conclusion, the use of ELLLO website could improve students’ listening comprehension at a senior high school in Jember. Therefore, the researcher suggested that English teachers use ELLLO as a medium in teaching listening to improve students’ listening comprehension. In addition, students can gain new experiences in listening because it provides real situations by listening to native speakers. | |
