Abstract

Referring to the Merdeka Curriculum, which required students to think critically, HOTS (Higher Order Thinking Skills) questions served as an evaluation of students’ thinking levels in solving problems. Higher-order thinking skills included the ability to analyze, evaluate, and create. The purpose of this study was to describe the higher-order thinking skills of seventh-grade junior high school students in solving algebra problems based on predetermined indicators. This research employed a qualitative descriptive approach. Data collection methods included tests, interviews, and documentation. The results of this study showed that 8 students met the analysis indicator, namely being able to identify the given and asked information accurately; 11 students met the evaluation indicator, where they were able to select the appropriate solution to solve the problem; and 5 students met the creation indicator, namely being able to explain the solution steps and generate ideas to create new solutions.
