Abstract

Self-acceptance is a crucial psychological aspect that helps individuals cope with physical limitations, social stigma, and challenges in social roles and self-identity. This study aims to understand the significance of self-acceptance in improving the quality of life of people with physical disabilities at the PERPENCA Foundation in Jember Regency. This study used a qualitative approach with a phenomenological study to explore the subjective experiences of people with physical disabilities in accepting their condition and building a better quality of life. The location was determined using purposive sampling based on specific considerations and was conducted intentionally. Data collection techniques included non-participatory observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation. The results indicate that self-acceptance is the foundation of self-confidence, productivity, and social empowerment. Support from peers, foundations or inclusive communities, and those closest to them can help them reconcile with their limitations, start independent businesses, continue their education, and actively participate in organizations. Training held at the PERPNCA Foundation can encourage economic independence, while self-acceptance can create a calmer, more peaceful, and happier life. Self-acceptance is not only about accepting limitations but also about understanding one's potential, leading to a meaningful quality of life.
