Abstract

The receptive language skills of children in Group A at Dharma Indria II Kindergarten, Jember, are still relatively low. They still experience difficulty listening, understanding stories, and answering simple questions posed by the teacher. One way to improve children's receptive language skills is through the use of engaging and interactive learning media, such as shadow puppets (modern wayang cahaya). This study aims to determine the effect of shadow puppets on the receptive language skills of children in Group A at Dharma Indria II Kindergarten, Jember. This study used a quasi-experimental method with a pretest-posttest non-equivalent control group design. The subjects consisted of 23 children: 11 in Group A1 as the experimental group and 12 in Group A2 as the control group. Data collection was conducted using observation using a receptive language observation sheet. The results showed a significance value of 0.000 <0.05 in the Mann-Whitney U test. Therefore, H₀ was rejected and Hₐ was accepted. The findings show that shadow puppet media has a significant effect on improving the receptive language skills of group A children at Dharma Indria II Kindergarten, Jember.
