Abstract
The availability of global oil reserves was decreasing while production from
conventional wells continued to decline, raising concerns about a future energy
crisis. Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) could increase production by up to 30-60%
of total reserves. The Norne Field in Norway had significant potential for EOR,
particularly using polymer and CO2 solvents, which increased the viscosity of
injection water and dissolved oil to facilitate its flow to the surface. This study
aimed to determine the recovery factor and efficiency of EOR using polymer and
CO2 injection in the Norne Field Segment C, and to compare the best method
between them. Performance simulations were conducted on selected injection wells
(C-1H, C-2H, C-3H, and C-4H) with continuous polymer and CO2 solvent
injection. The results show that continuous polymer injection in well C-2H achieves
a recovery factor of 49%, and continuous CO2 solvent injection achieves 46.45%,
both higher than the base case of 46%. Gas recovery factors for the base case,
polymer, and CO2 solvent are 70.50%, 61%, and 71%, respectively. CO2 solvent
injection efficiency is lower than polymer due to segregation in the reservoir, while
polymer injection is more efficient in spreading through the reservoir area,
enhancing oil production macroscopically and microscopically. The simulation
indicates that continuous polymer injection is better than continuous CO2 solvent
injection in the Norne Field Segment C.
