dc.description.abstractWild yam (Dioscorea hispida Dennst.) is a tuber used by local communities as a food source, rich in carbohydrates. This plant has various potentials in various fields, especially in the health sector. This study aims to identify potential bioactive chemical compounds in gadung leaves (Dioscorea hispida Dennst.) and develop the research results in the form of a booklet as a popular scientific information medium. This research is an exploratory study conducted at the Biology Education Toxicology Laboratory of the University of Jember and the UPA Laboratory of the University of Jember. This research involved extracting gadung leaves using the maceration method with 70% ethanol, followed by analysis using the LC-HRMS (Liquid Chromatography-High Resolution Mass Spectrometry) technique. The results of the analysis showed that gadung leaves contain various primary and secondary metabolites. The primary metabolites detected include amino acids, organic acids, purine and pyrimidine nucleobases, vitamins, and fatty acids. Meanwhile, the secondary metabolites found include phenolic compounds (luteolin, apigenin, hispidulin), alkaloids (tropinon), flavonol glycosides (afzelin), phenolic acids (4-coumaric acid), and cyanogenic glycosides. These compounds have potential as antioxidants, antimicrobials, anti-inflammatories, antidiabetics, and antitumor. The research results were then compiled into a booklet, which was validated by four validators (material experts, media experts, and two users: students and the community). Based on the validation results, the booklet was declared suitable as reading material and a popular scientific reference. This research is expected to become a source of scientific information on the bioactive potential of gadung leaves and support the development of locally based teaching materials.
