Abstract

Background: Musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) are pathological conditions that affect the normal functioning of the soft tissues of the musculoskeletal system. Students are at risk of developing MSDs due to poor ergonomic conditions, such as sitting positions, desk designs, and the use of inappropriate lecture tools. Objective: This study aims to analyze the correlation between body posture and musculoskeletal disorder complaints in Bachelor of Nursing students at University of Jember. Methods: This study used a quantitative with descriptive analytical approach with participants consisted of 76 Bachelor of Nursing students at University of Jember. The sampling technique uses probability sampling with the proportionate stratified random sampling method. Data collection using the Nordic Body Map (NBM) questionnaire and video recording were then analyzed using the Rapid Entire Body Analysis (REBA) worksheet. Both data were then analyzed using the Spearman-rho correlation method. Results: The results of the Spearman-rho test analysis obtained a p-value of 0.001, with correlation coefficient (r) 0.610 which indicates that the relationship between the two variables is strong and the direction of the relationship is positive. This means that there is a significant relationship between body posture and Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSDs) complaints in Bachelor of Nursing students at University of Jember. Conclusion: The correlation between body posture and complaints of Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSDs) in students can be caused by the students' static sitting position which is not ergonomic and is done for a long time when students carry out lecture activities.
