Abstract
This study aims to analyze the capital of the Kartika Budaya Ambulu Art
Studio in maintaining its existence amidst the flow of globalization using the
concept of capital from Bourdieu's perspective. The background of this study is
based on the existence of several studios that have become extinct amidst the flow
of globalization and the need to understand the studio's capital in maintaining its
existence amidst the extinction of these studios. This study uses a qualitative
research method with an ethnographic approach. Data collection techniques were
carried out through interviews (with the studio founder, studio treasurer, studio
secretary, trainers and studio members), direct observation, and documentation.
Data analysis was carried out by mapping 4 capital concepts consisting of cultural
capital, social capital, economic capital, and symbolic capital. The results of the
study indicate that the Kartika Budaya Ambulu Art Studio has several forms of
capital used to maintain its existence amidst the flow of globalization. Cultural
capital is related to the studio's knowledge and skills, as well as the studio's
traditions in preserving the arts. The studio's social capital is related to the studio's
relations and collaboration with the arts community, society, and government, as
well as the studio's internal relationships in maintaining the regeneration of
successors. The studio's economic capital is related to the funds and facilities
owned by the studio. A studio's symbolic capital is related to its reputation and
achievements. This study concludes that studios utilize these four forms of capital
optimally as a form of adaptation and an effort to maintain their existence amidst
globalization.
