The Effect of Cocomelon Videos as a Learning Media on Young EFL Learners' Pronunciation Accuracy

Abstract

This research investigated the effect of using Cocomelon videos as a learning media on young EFL learners’ pronunciation accuracy. The objective of this research was to determine the effect of Cocomelon videos combined with drilling and TPR games on young EFL learners’ pronunciation accuracy.This research employed a pre-experimental design with one group pre-test and post-test. The participants were taught pronunciation using Cocomelon videos through drilling and TPR activities such as Simon Says. Students/s pronunciation was measured before and after the treatment. The pronunciation tests were scored by two raters to ensure inter-rater reliability. The results showed an increase in students’ pronunciation scores from pre-test to post-test after the treatment phase. The increase was influenced by four factors, such as repetition and rhythm, visual context, low-anxiety input, and drilling and TPR games. Based on the results, Cocomelon videos as a learning media, when combined with drilling and TPR games, had a positive effect on young EFL learners’ pronunciation accuracy.
