Abstract
Skin is one of the organs that can be exposed to free radicals from outside.
This can lead to premature aging. Antioxidants are compounds that can prevent the
oxidation process and formation of free radicals. Essential oils from the peel and
leaves of several citrus species have been investigated for their antioxidant activity.
However, research on honey Siamese oranges (Citrus nobilis L.) has not been
conducted. Therefore, this research aimed to determine whether essential oils from
the peel. The leaves of fresh and dried honey siam oranges have antioxidant
activity. Antioxidant activity research was conducted using DPPH (2,2-diphenyl1-picrylhydrazyl) method. The research process began with plant determination
followed by the preparation of fresh and dried honey siamese peel and leaves and
the water content was then determined. Furthermore, the essential oil was extracted
using the steam-water distillation method. The yield of essential oil then calculated
and followed by antioxidant capacity testing at a wavelength of 517 nm with
incubation time of the positive control and samples were 55 and 50 min,
respectively. The result showed that Citrus nobilis peel and leaf essential oil has
yield from 1,1725 to 4,1788%, and antioxidant capacity from 105,35 to 317,63
μg/mL. Drying affects the antioxidant capacity of citrus peel but does not affect the
antioxidant capacity of the citrus leaves. There is a significant difference of
antioxidant capacity between the essential oils of citrus leaves and fruit peels.
