KUD Sumber Pangan: Pemberdayaan Ekonomi Masyarakat Kecamatan Puri, Kabupaten Mojokerto Tahun 1980-2020

Abstract

This study examines the existence of the Sumber Pangan Village Unit Cooperative (KUD) in Puri District, Mojokerto Regency, East Java Province, from 1980 to 2020. The issues examined in this research include the background to the establishment of the Sumber Pangan Village Unit Cooperative (KUD Sumber Pangan), the dynamics of its development from the New Order era to the Reformation era, and the socio-economic impacts of the cooperative's existence on the farming community in Puri District. This research employs a historical method encompassing four stages: heuristics, source criticism, interpretation, and historiography, using a development economics approach that utilizes Amartya Sen's capability theory as an analytical framework. The results indicate that the Sumber Pangan Village Unit Cooperative (KUD Sumber Pangan) emerged from the transformation of the Sumber Pangan Village Unit Business Entity (BUUD Sumber Pangan), which had been established in 1975 in Kebonagung Village, based on Presidential Instruction Number 2 of 1978, and was officially recognized as a legal entity on November 4, 1980, through Decree Number 4645/BH/II/80. The development of the Sumber Pangan Cooperative (KUD Sumber Pangan) during the period 1980–2020 is divided into three main phases: the glory phase (1980–1997), the pressure and adaptation phase (1998–2010), and the consolidation phase (2011–2020). KUD Sumber Pangan has had a significant and multidimensional impact on increasing agricultural productivity, improving farmer welfare through the distribution of subsidized fertilizer and agricultural credit, and strengthening the social capital of the Puri District community through collective participation in the Annual Members Meeting (RAT).
