Pengaruh Ekstrak Biji Mahoni (Swietenia Mahagoni) Terhadap Penurunan Kadar Gula Darah Pada Mencit (Mus Musculus) Yang Diinduksi Aloksan Dan Pemanfaatannya Sebagai Book Chapter

Abstract

This research aims to determine the effect of mahogany seed extract (Swietenia mahagoni) at various doses on lowering blood sugar levels in male mice (Mus musculus) induced by alloxan and its use as a book chapter. The method used was a Complete Randomized Design (CRD) experiment consisting of six treatment groups, namely normal control (N), negative control (alloxan induction), positive control (metformin), and three mahogany seed extract dose groups, namely 50 mg/kgBW (P1), 100 mg/kgBW (P2), and 200 mg/kgBW (P3). The parameters observed were fasting blood sugar levels measured before induction, after alloxan induction, and after seven days of treatment, followed by statistical analysis using the One Way ANOVA test and Duncan's post hoc test. The results showed significant differences in blood sugar levels between treatment groups (p<0.05). Mahogany seed extract was able to lower blood sugar levels compared to the negative control group, with a dose of 200 mg/kgBW providing the highest percentage decrease of 67%, even higher than the positive control. Mahogany seeds extract acted as an antidiabetic and antioxidants that helped reduce oxidative stress due to alloxan induction and supported the improvement of pancreatic β cell function. The conclusion of this study is that mahogany seed extract has potential as a natural antidiabetic agent, with a dose of 200 mg/kgBW being the most effective. The research product, in the form of a book chapter, has been validated by subject matter experts, media experts, and users, and has been declared suitable for development as reading material for the general public.
