Abstract

Lactic acid bacteria (LAB) are bacteria that are able to ferment lactic acid and have been widely used as probiotics to improve poultry health. The role of LAB, which has the potential as a probiotic, is able to survive growing under conditions of acidic pH and high NaCl concentration. This resistance serves to maintain the balance of the intestinal microbiota and prevent pathogenic infections in the digestive tract. This study aims to obtain data on the resistance of BAL from broiler chicken semen to acidic pH and NaCl. This research was carried out in several stages, namely the rejuvenation of 7 LAB isolates of secum in MRSB media, resistance tests to acid pH and NaCl. The resistance of LAB to pH and NaCl is determined based on the survival rate value. The results showed that of the 7 LAB isolates, there were 4 isolates, namely S14, S26, S30 and S34 with survival rates of 56%, 70%, 98%, and 70%, respectively which had good growth ability in acidic conditions with pH 4. Only one LAB of S30 isolate survived growing at a NaCl concentration of 6% which had better resistance with a survival rate of around 71%.
